SWBAT write a functional business letter by prewriting, revising, and writing a final draft.

Agenda

  • Jumpstart: Elie Wiesel writes about his faith (Jewish) throughout the novel. Use your prior knoweledge to see how many of the following terms you can identify. Jot down a few notes to show what you know, even if your knowledge is a bit cloudy.

    • rabbi

    • synogogue

    • Kabbalah

    • Torah

    • Rosh Hashanah

  • Night Ch. 1 Reading Guide: Process what you read in Chapter 1 by asking questions, drawing an illustration, and finding figurativelanguage.

  • Business Letter Notes and Rough Draft: Review the format of the business letter. Then write a formal thank you letter to Mrs. Martin thanking her for presenting on Monday. Tell Mrs. Martin three things that you learned from her presentation and tell her what you can do to spread peace in the world.

  • Jumpstart: Describe a journey you have taken in your life. You may write about a trip you took to a different place. Or, describe a journey in time (middle school to high school).

  • Night Timeline Gallery Walk:  Answer the questions on the handout by visiting the timelines of the Holocaust Era around the room.

  • Night Ch. 1 Reading Guide: Process what you read in Chapter 1 by completing the Chapter 1 reading guide.

Homework: WWW Unit 4 due Tuesday, November 25. Night Ch. 1 Reading Guide due Friday

  • Jumpstart:Listen to a passage (pages 31-33) from Ms. Martin’s autobiography, Kiss Every Step. After listening, summarize what you heard and write about your response to the reading.
  • Read Chapter 1 (pages 3-22) of Night. As you read, fill out the Night Ch. 1 Reading Guide
  • Begin working on Worthwhile Words Unit 4.
