  • Due Today: LOTF Ch. 1-3 Concrete Details and Commentary
  • Jumpstart: A symbol is a thing that represents or stands for a bigger idea. What possible symbols do you see so far in LOTF? What do those things represent?
  • WWW Unit 1 Review: Complete questions 1-20 on pages 24-25, “Completing the Sentence.”
  • Read LOTF, Chapter 4.
  • Add characterization notes to LOTF Who’s Who chart.

Homework: Study for Worthwhile Words test on Friday.

  • Jumpstart: Describe the plane crashes in LOST and Lord of the Flies. How are they similar? How are they different?  Try to use all five senses in your descriptions.
  • Read LOTF, Chapter 2. Continue writing characterization notes on LOTF Who’s Who.

Homework: FInish reading Chapter 2. Worthwhile Words Unit 1 due Friday, September 5.

SWBAT analyze the author’s use of characterization by writing notes on a graphic organzier.

Agenda

  • Jumpstart: Today is the birthday of chop suey. Chop suey is a mixture of chopped vegetables, meat, and seasonings. This Chinese-style dish is actually American–it was ‘born’ in America, at least. It was first concocted in New York CIty by the chef of the visiting Chinese ambassador, Li Huang-Cheng. Do you like to cook? Write about one of your favorite things to cook. If you don’t like to cook, write about one of your favorite foods or meals to eat. Who usually cooks it for you? Try to use all five senses in your writing.
  • Read Lord of the Flies, Chapter 1. Take notes on LOTF Who’s Who chart as you meet each new character.
  • Work on Unit 1 of Worthwhile Words or Neighborhood Maps.

Homework: Worthwhile Words Unit 1 due Friday, September 5. Finish reading LOTF Ch. 1 by Tuesday, September 2.
