SWBAT analyze character traits and plot events by writing CDs and CM.

Agenda

  • Jumpstart: In Chapter 7, Ralph asks Jack why Jack hates him. Jack doens’t answer. Why do you think Jack hates Ralph? Is it a mutual hate?
  • Turn in September Jumpstarts. Count up all the red stamps. For every entry with a stamp, give yourself five points. For every entry without a stamp that is 5-7 sentences, give yourself three points. For an entry that has only one or two sentences, give yourself one point. Count up the total amount of points and write the total on a sticky note. Put the sticky note on the entry you want Ms. DeVries to read and turn your September Jumpstarts in.
  • Read LOTF Chapter 8, pages 124-137.
  • LOTF Struggle for Power Paragraph: Use your outline to write a paragraph describing how the power shifts in Lord of the Flies.

Homework:

  • LOTF Struggle for Power Paragraph due tomorrow.
  • Worthwhile Words Unit 2 due Thursday.

    Ralph doesn’t want to be the leader anymore? Have you ever had to act like an adult, or be the responsible one, when you didn’t want to? Explain.
  • Study Island: Read about characterization. Choose 17 test questions and practice for the AIMS test in February.

  • Foreshadowing occurs when an author gives an intimation (or hint!) about what will happen later in a book. Look back at the end of Chapter 5. Find and summarize at least two examples of foreshadowing.
