SWBAT analyze the author’s use of characterization by writing notes on a graphic organzier.

Agenda

  • Jumpstart: Today is the birthday of chop suey. Chop suey is a mixture of chopped vegetables, meat, and seasonings. This Chinese-style dish is actually American–it was ‘born’ in America, at least. It was first concocted in New York CIty by the chef of the visiting Chinese ambassador, Li Huang-Cheng. Do you like to cook? Write about one of your favorite things to cook. If you don’t like to cook, write about one of your favorite foods or meals to eat. Who usually cooks it for you? Try to use all five senses in your writing.
  • Read Lord of the Flies, Chapter 1. Take notes on LOTF Who’s Who chart as you meet each new character.
  • Work on Unit 1 of Worthwhile Words or Neighborhood Maps.

Homework: Worthwhile Words Unit 1 due Friday, September 5. Finish reading LOTF Ch. 1 by Tuesday, September 2.
