  • (2nd only) Quatrains: Actively read “Heart, we will forget him!” and “A Pizza the Size of a Sun.” Write an original quatrain following one of the rhyme schemes.
  • (1st and 6th only) Sonnets: Actively read “Sonnet 18.” Identify rhyme scheme, discuss iambic pentameter, and meaning of poem. Follow the directions to write your own sonnet.
  • Work on Call to Action projects. 

Homework: Call to Action Presentations and Reflections due Thursday/Friday. One poem (choose the couplet, quatrain, or sonnet) is due Tuesday.

Free Verse #2

SWBAT analyze a poet’s use of poetic devices by actively reading three poems.

SW prewrite and draft a free verse poem.

Agenda

  • Pass back papers and reflect on Call to Action projects.
  • Active Reading of “Dream’d in a Dream,” “Fog,” and “Winter Poem.” Underline and label poetic devices. Underline and explain lines that have the most meaning.
  • Prewrite ideas and figures of speech on Free Verse #2 handout.
  • Write a rough draft of a free verse poem pertaining to something sacred toi you.

Homework: Finish writing the free verse poem, if necessary.
