SWBAT write for a particular purpose and for a specific audience by writing an AIMS practice essay.

Agenda

  • Jumpstart: What are your thoughts on Study Island? Do you think it helps prepare you for AIMS? What could improve on the program? What do you need to do better on Study Island?
  • AIMS Boot Camp
    • Review “National Parks, National Paradox.” Read questions and text. Discuss what parts students underlined. Discussed correct answers and wrote complete sentences justifying the correct answer.
    • Writing Test: Write the rough draft. Consider the following questions in your draft. What company is it? What is the actual position?

 Homework: Read “Tracking Lessons.” Answer the questions and underline where you found the answer.

SWBAT determine the purpose, audience of a prompt by discussion.

SWBAT use organizational strategies to plan writing by prewriting.

SW write complete sentences.

Agenda

  • Jumpstart: We are about one month away from AIMS. What are your thoughts about the test? What do you feel most prepared for?
  • AIMS Boot Camp
    • Re-read “Two Words”. For each question, discuss which part of the text students underlined. Discuss correct answer and justification for correct answer. Write sentences justifying the correct answer next to each question.
    • AIMS Writing test.
      • Discuss prompt. ” You are responsible for hiring employees for a company. Fifty people have applied for one job opening. Write an essay describing the qualities you are seeking in an ideal employee. Explain why these qualities are necessary for employment.
      • What is the format?
      • What is the topic?
      • Who is the audience?
      • Brainstorm for ideas.

Homework: Read “National Parks, National Paradox”. Answer the questions and underline where you  found the answer.
